Useful Terminology

Link Bars - these are used on some divan bases to join 2 halves together

Air Vents - available on some mattresses to promote air circulation

Memory Foam - a type of foam which reacts to temperature and body shape/weight to mould around the person. Recovers to normal position when unoccupied. Developed by NASA, this product is ideal for people who have difficulty sleeping or suffer from body pains

Viscose / Visco Foam - another name for memory foam (see above)

Open Coil - this is a type of spring system where the springs are joined by a rod edge to form a strong unit

Pocket Sprung - this is where springs are housed in separate pockets and are individually 'nested' into the mattress and operate independantly

Orthopaedic - these products are particularly suited to people who suffer from back problems or those who prefer a firmer mattress

Damask - this is a good quality fabric and has been used for many years in bed /mattress manufacture

Tufting - this is a traditional method where fillings are secured, by hand, using tufts from the top of the mattress through to the bottom

Reflex Foam - this is a high-density foam used in some mattresses. It has a high elasticity level that offers superb cushioning
